Library Media Specialist

Supervisor: Program Manager for Itinerant Services/Student Programs

Basic Function: To provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety of materials that will invite intellectual growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of media resources. This position will be assigned 0.4 FTE with Belfast ans 0.6 FTE with Scio.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Operates and supervises the media center to which assigned
  • Evaluates, selects, and requisitions new media center materials
  • Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional matreial and makes media center materials available to supplement the in structional program.
  • Informs teachers and other staff members conserning new materials the media center acquires
  • Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media center materials and instructs teachers and students on use of the system.
  • Arranges for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers.
  • Works with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of media center resources.
  • Promotes appropriate conduct of students using media center facilities.
  • Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
  • Presents and discusses materials with a class studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacher.
  • Participates at curriculum meetings.
  • Counsels with and gives reading guidance to students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests.
  • Arranges frequently changing book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the media center's patrons.
  • Prepares and administers the media center budget.
  • Weeds obsolete and worn materials from the collections.
  • Supervises the clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the media center.
  • Develop programs to motivate reading, listening, viewing and communication skills in students and professional staff.
  • Other such duties as may be assigned by the District Superintendent.

Fundamental Building Systems Teacher

Position: Fundamental Building Systems Teacher

Division: Career & Technical Education

Supervisor: Building Principal

Description: To provide instruction to high school students enrolled in Fundamental Building Systems, including instruction in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing. Experience with HVAC, electrical, and/or plumbing is essential.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Teach theoretical underpinnings and core content knowledge, aptitudes, concepts, technical and employability skills as they apply to Carpentry, HVAC, electrical and plumbing.
  2. Develop instruction, activities, project-based learning, and work-based learning experiences.
  3. Instruct students in workplace competencies, citizenship, professional communication, and related skills.
  4. Manage the classroom to create  an engaging, supportive, safe, orderly, and productive educational environment.
  5. Develop and implement procedures and processes to ensure safe use of supplies, tools, and equipment.
  6. Implement the Student Code of Conduct.
  7. Participate in the NYSED Approval process of the Fundamental Building Systems CTE program under the direction and supervision of the CTE Principal and Curriculum Coordinator.
  8. Plan, requisition, control, store, maintain, and use materials, supplies and equipment as per applicable regulation, Board of Education policies, and school district procedure.
  9. Develop and maintain an advisory committee composed of area employers, post-secondary representatives, industry association members, local union representatives, and other related professionals to provide input toward curriculum, employability skills, equipment purchases, license/certifications, technical skills, and industry standard practices.
  10. Comply with all state laws, NYSED regulations, Board of Education policies, Student Code of Conduct, school district procedures and practices.
  11. Attend faculty meetings, participate in professional development, particpate in committee work, and work collaboratively with colleagues to further the mission of the organization.
  12. Other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually by Building Principal as per NYSED regulation, CABOCES BOE policy and collective bargaining agreement.

Description:

Integrate NYS English Language Arts concepts and standards in support of CTE programs. The successful candidate will  have excellent content knowledge, superior interpersonal relationship building skills, a strong work ethic and an easy going personality. This position requires a teacher who is able to co-plan, co-instruct and co-assess student learning with CTE teachers, the ability to learn CTE content and skills, ability to work as a member of a team, ability to develop and adhere to a schedule, and the ability to relate to students. If the chosen candidate has a master's in English, candidate may be expected to teach college level classes in one or more programs.The successful candidate will work in concert with others to complete the NYS CTE program approval/re-approval process, attend CTE advisory committee meetings align program content to ELA standards, support CTE program routine, grading practices, behavioral and academic expectations; participation in district initiatives, extracurricular activities and other duties as assigned by the building principal.
