Position: Instructional Staff/Teacher Assistant - Continuous Recruitment

Basic Function: The teaching assistant provides direct instructional support to students under the general supervision of a certified teacher. The teaching assistant works as a member of a team in the classroom where the teacher has ultimate responsibility for developing and planning the educational program. The teaching assistant has the ability to assume teacher responsibilities.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Perform assigned duties according to the policies, rules, and regulations of the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) and the New York State Department of Education. Comply with all Federal mandates as they apply to students with disabilities. 
  2. Provide close supervision and take all reasonable precautions to ensure student safety.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  4. Assist in instruction ad fulfillment of IEP mandates.
  5. Implement established behavior plan(s).
  6. Establish a structured learning environment that fosters a positive self-concept and sense of well-being. Use strategies that motivate students to develop sound problem solving and reasoning skills.
  7. Establish high standards and expectations for all students for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
  8. Assist teacher in documenting student progress. Share information and maintain regular communication with appropriate classroom teachers to support a congruent effort toward identified goals and objectives.
  9. Give students positive feedback that encourages personal responsibility for their educational activities and interpersonal relationships.
  10. Assist teacher to help students develop positive work behavior and attitudes.
  11. Ensure the confidentiality of privileged information.
  12. Promote the proper care of school property, equipment, textbooks, supplies, and other materials. Maintain inventory and account for school resources within assigned classroom(s).
  13. Assist teacher in maintaining standards for student conduct and enforcing discipline according to classroom/school policy and the due process rights of students. Employ techniques that motivate students to establish appropriate short and long-term goals. Provide positive reinforcement to acknowledge acceptable behavior. Consistently confront undesirable behavior firmly and fairly.
  14. Assist teacher in preparation of assigned classroom at the beginning of the year; inventory equipment and supplies and store at the end of the school year.
  15. Participate in faculty meetings and in-service training.
  16. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and other agencies associated with the school.

Term of Employment: 10-month position

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of th Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel as defined in the teacher's negotiated agreement with input provided form the teacher of the classroom to which the employee is assigned.

Position: Teachers/Medical Assistant Teacher

Location: BOCES Center at Ellicottville

The selected candidate must provide career and technical education in a NYSED approved CTE program, including integrated academic content in collaboration with academic teachers, work-based learning opportunities in collaboration with the WBL coordinator.

Responsibilities for instruction may include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing lesson plans, demonstrations, activities, projects and assessments aligned with outcomes of the NYSED approved program curriculum map.
  • Participate in NYSED CTE program approval process including curriculum development.
  • Meet with colleagues to coordinate lesson plans, share resources and expertise in the content area.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians and educators to discuss student progress and concerns both on a regular basis and as needed.
  • Maintain proficiency in the use of technology in the industry and for instructional purposes.
  • Willingness to obtain relevant industry credentials to provide CTE students with the instruction and opportunity to earn the credential.
  • Timely completion of required tasks within the established timelines.
  • Maintain an active Advisory Committee and develop work-based learning opportunities.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned by the building principal.
